Bio Energy

India has set ambitious goals for its energy transition, aiming for fifty percent cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030, with a vision of achieving net zero emissions by 2070.

As part of this transition, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has recognized the importance of modern bioenergy.

Here are Some Key Points about Bioenergy in India:

Bioenergy Overview

India has abundant biomass and other waste resources, making energy recovery from these sources a viable solution. Modern bioenergy not only provides clean fuels but also offers social and environmental benefits. Benefits include mitigating air, water, and land pollution, creating local jobs, reducing energy import bills, and developing decentralized communities. The MNRE has launched the National Bioenergy Programme for the period from April 2021 to March 2026 with an outlay of Rs. 858 crore under Phase-I. The program includes sub-schemes such as: - Waste to Energy Programme: Supporting energy recovery from urban, industrial, agricultural wastes, and municipal solid waste. - Biomass Programme: Promoting briquettes, pellets, and non-bagasse- based cogeneration in industries. -Biogas Programme: Encouraging biogas production and utilization.
